Crnogorke u djelima poznatih slikara
Jos Ne Svice Rujna Zora
Montenegrin women in art (Ottoman rule in the Balkans)
Song: Još ne sviće rujna zora
English
Red Dawn Is Still Not Dawning
Red dawn is still not dawning
mountain leaf is still not blinking
nightingale can not be heard
announcing dawn
Not even zephyra can be heard
nor the shepherd’s song
there’s silence all around
everything alive is resting
Ref.
May dew-covered flowers blossom
and may they adorn the Spring
I won’t be picking them again
because they are not for me
I won’t be picking them again
because I have nobody to give them to
the one I used to give them to
soil is covering her
Montenegrin
Još ne sviće rujna zora
Još ne sviće rujna zora,
još ne trepti list sa gora,
ne čuje se glas slavuja,
zoru da najavi.
Ne čuje se mizelfira,
niti svirka od pastira,
tišina je svud okolo,
sve živo počiva.
Ref.
Neka cveta rosno cveće,
nek se kiti s njim proleće,
ja ga neću više brati,
jer nije za mene.
Ja ga neću više brati,
jer ga nemam kome dati,
kome sam ga darivao,
zemlja je pokrila.
Does and Lioness
"When these women are not completely shaken by the misery of martyrdom, they are indisputably the most prominent type of a South Slav woman ... It is scarcely that where there are women, peasants from a simple people, who would be more virtuous and naturally more distinguished than Montenegrins."
(Jovan Cvijić)
Srne i Lavice
„Kad ove žene nisu sasvim utučene bedom mučnog života, nesporno su najotmeniji tip južnoslovenske žene... Jedva da gde ima žena, seljanki iz prostog naroda, koje bi bile sa više vrlina i prirodno otmenije nego što su Crnogorke.”
